The Center for Career Services at John Carroll University is seeking two Career Advisors. The Career Advisors will provide career services to current students and alumni. They need to be familiar with career development theory, especially as it relates to college students. Primary responsibilities are coaching students and alumni individually, and presenting to groups in career development topic areas, including resume creation, critique and job searches. Supervision of student employees and graduate assistants/interns on the delivery of career services is also a main component.

The Career Counselor will provide career and internship counseling, job search and graduate school assistance to undergraduate students, graduate students, and alumni. Duties include meeting with students and alumni in individual appointments to review resumes and cover letters and prepare for interviews. Maintain case notes that track client progress, assessment results and counseling goals while ensuring confidentiality. Assist in the delivery of group career education and outreach to classrooms, groups, and clubs/organizations on campus. Conduct class visits. Develop programs and online resources and materials to assist students with career development.

Assist with the coordination of employer development activities, including calling employers, visiting open houses, organization, marketing and planning of career/internship fairs, and attending networking functions to increase internship and job opportunities for students and alumni. Represent Career Services office at campus and community events. Provide liaison and consultative services to faculty and staff regarding University resources and procedures related to career services. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher in counseling or related discipline or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Other requirements include a completed practicum in Counseling Skills and Techniques. This is a fixed-term appointment funded through June 30, 2018 with possibility of re-funding.
